Ko Samui's Most Charming Neighbourhood

Fisherman's Village — Everything You Need to Know

A historic walking street of French-Chinese shophouses on Ko Samui's north coast — calmer than Chaweng, more charming than Maenam, and home to the island's best Friday night market.

What is Fisherman's Village?

Fisherman's Village (also written Fishermans Village) is the name locals and tourists use for the old walking street in Bo Phut, on Ko Samui's north coast. It grew from a sleepy fishing community of Chinese-Thai shophouses into one of Thailand's most atmospheric beach-town streets — 400 metres of boutique shops, beachfront restaurants, cocktail bars and open-air cafés, all set on a palm-fringed bay facing Ko Phangan.

It's 15 minutes north of Chaweng by Grab, and roughly 10 minutes from Ko Samui Airport. For most visitors it's the relaxed alternative to the bustle of Chaweng — less party, more soul.

Who goes to Fisherman's Village?

Everyone. Couples come for sunset dinners on the beach. Families wander the market stalls. Digital nomads set up in the cafés with fast WiFi. Expats call it home. Solo travellers find it easy to meet people in the bars and lounges. Groups of friends start their evening here before the Friday night market turns the whole street into a festival.

The Friday Night Market — Ko Samui's Best

Every Friday from ~5PM to 11PM, Fisherman's Village closes its walking street to traffic and transforms into Ko Samui's most popular market. Hundreds of stalls sell street food (pad Thai, mango sticky rice, banana pancakes, BBQ seafood), handmade jewellery, clothing, handicrafts and local art. Live music plays from multiple spots; fire performers draw crowds after dark.

The market is right outside our door — Magical Garden is on the walking street, so you can step between the stalls and our tropical garden all evening.

Beyond Friday — Daily Walking Street

The walking street is lively every evening from ~6PM. The daily market runs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 4PM. Fire shows happen nightly at Coco Tam's beach bar (7:15PM and 9PM). Restaurants fill up at sunset. A completely different vibe from the big-beach-club scene elsewhere on the island.

Filming Location

Fisherman's Village & The White Lotus Season 3

HBO's The White Lotus Season 3 was filmed across Ko Samui and Phuket — and Fisherman's Village was one of the key locations. The production used our walking street to film the Songkran festival scenes in Episode 4, dressing the shopfronts with colourful lanterns and closing the beach road for filming. Many local store owners appeared as background extras.

The impact has been real: Ko Samui recorded a 65% increase in hotel bookings during April 2026 compared to the year before, driven largely by White Lotus tourism. Fisherman's Village — as the area most closely associated with the "town centre" scenes — has seen the biggest footfall increase.

If you're visiting Ko Samui to see the White Lotus filming locations, Fisherman's Village is your starting point. Magical Garden is right on the walking street where many scenes were shot — sit in our tropical garden with a coffee and watch the world go by exactly where the cameras rolled.

White Lotus locations in Fisherman's Village

  • Walking Street — Songkran festival scenes, Episode 4
  • Anantara Bophut Resort — pool and jewellery shop scenes
  • Beach road — closed for filming with fake shopfronts
  • Bo Phut bay — establishing shots and beach scenes

Magical Garden sits on the same walking street where filming took place. Grab a coffee here and you're walking the same street as the cast.

Cannabis Near Me — Ko Samui

Wherever you're staying on the island, here's how far Magical Garden is from you:

Is there a cannabis dispensary near Chaweng?

Yes — Magical Garden in Fisherman's Village is about 15 minutes from Chaweng by Grab (roughly ฿120–150). Most guests staying in Chaweng or Chaweng Noi make the trip in the evening and stay for dinner and drinks at MG Bistro. Address: 78 Moo 1, Thanon Laan Thong, Bo Phut, Ko Samui.

Is there weed near Fisherman's Village or Bo Phut?

Magical Garden is on the Fisherman's Village walking street in Bo Phut — if you're already in the village, you're here. Look for the tropical garden entrance on Thanon Laan Thong. Open daily from 9AM until 2AM.

Is there a cannabis café near Ko Samui Airport?

Magical Garden is about 10 minutes by taxi from Ko Samui Airport (USM) — one of the closest licensed cannabis cafés on the island to the airport. Many guests stop in straight off the plane. Open from 9AM, so it works for morning arrivals too.

Is there weed near Lamai or Maenam?

From Maenam (north coast), Magical Garden is about 10 minutes by Grab. From Lamai (south coast), it's roughly 30 minutes — a longer ride, but most Lamai visitors say it's worth it for the atmosphere, the food, and the strain selection. Drop a pin to 78 Moo 1, Bo Phut in your Grab app.

Where can I buy cannabis on Ko Samui?

Magical Garden is Ko Samui's top-rated licensed cannabis café — 5.0★ on Google with 800+ reviews. We carry a rotating menu of premium exotic strains (sativa, indica, hybrid), WPFF hash, and edibles, all from licensed Thai suppliers. Walk in any time, daily 9AM–2AM. No appointment needed.

What makes Magical Garden the leading cannabis dispensary in Koh Samui?

Three things our 800+ five-star reviewers mention most: the selection, the staff, and the setting. The menu rotates constantly so there's always something new — exotic flowers, premium hash and edibles side by side — and every product comes from licensed Thai suppliers. And unlike a walk-in-walk-out dispensary, you can settle into the tropical garden with a coffee or a Thai meal and take your time.

Can the staff help me choose the right strain?

Absolutely — that's what our budtenders are there for. Tell them how you want to feel (energised, social, relaxed, sleepy) and whether you're a beginner or a regular, and they'll walk you through the current menu with honest advice on potency and effects. First-timers are always steered towards gentler options and sensible dosing.

Do I need a prescription to buy cannabis in Ko Samui?

Don't worry — everyone aged 20+ is welcome to walk in and buy, no advance arrangements needed. Thailand's current medical cannabis rules work with the PT33 prescription form, and Magical Garden makes that part easy: we provide the official PT33 forms completely free, both physically in-store and digitally, so you can use them to stay compliant if you wish. Just bring your passport (a photo of it is fine) — it takes a couple of minutes. No appointment, no fee, no hassle.

Fisherman's Village — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Fisherman's Village night market?

The Fisherman's Village Friday Night Market (also called the Walking Street Market) happens every Friday from approximately 5PM to 11PM along the main road in Bo Phut. Hundreds of stalls sell street food, handicrafts, clothing, jewellery and souvenirs. Live music plays throughout the evening, and fire performers do shows after dark. It's widely considered the best night market on Ko Samui. Magical Garden is right on the walking street, so you can use us as your base for the evening.

What is there to do in Fisherman's Village at night?

In the evening, the walking street fills with restaurants, cocktail bars and beachfront dining. The daily market runs from ~4PM on most nights. On Fridays the full Night Market takes over from 5PM. Fire shows happen nightly at Coco Tam's at 7:15PM and 9PM. Magical Garden is open until 2AM — with gaming, live events, cocktails and the tropical garden atmosphere. There are also British and Irish pubs, live music bars, and the calm beachfront for late-night walks.

Is Fisherman's Village good for digital nomads?

Very good. The area has several co-working spaces and plenty of cafés with fast WiFi. Magical Garden is a popular spot for remote workers — we have fast internet, power sockets, comfortable garden seating, great coffee and an all-day food menu. You can work from 9AM, then transition to lunch, cocktails and gaming without moving. Fisherman's Village is generally quieter and more liveable than Chaweng, which makes it popular with longer-term digital nomads.

Was The White Lotus filmed in Fisherman's Village?

Yes. The White Lotus Season 3 used Fisherman's Village as a filming location, most notably for the Songkran festival scenes in Episode 4. The production closed the beach road and set up stalls and colourful lanterns to represent the festival atmosphere. Several of the shophouse owners appeared as background extras. Since the show premiered in early 2026, tourist interest in the village has surged — Ko Samui recorded a 65% increase in hotel bookings in April 2026 compared to the previous year.

Is Fisherman's Village family-friendly?

Absolutely. Fisherman's Village is one of the most family-friendly areas on Ko Samui — there are no go-go bars or girlie bars in the village. The Friday market is great for children (food stalls, performers, lots to see). Bo Phut Beach is calm and clean. Many of the restaurants are family-oriented. Even Magical Garden is welcoming to families — the garden, the food and the gaming lounge are all open to all ages; the cannabis area is age-gated (20+) and separate.

Where is the best place to meet people in Fisherman's Village?

Magical Garden is consistently mentioned by solo travellers as the best place to meet other visitors. The open-air tropical garden layout means you're naturally close to other guests; the gaming area (pool table, PS5) creates easy social opportunities; and staff are welcoming rather than pushy. The Friday market pulls a huge crowd through the walking street, making it easy to start conversations. Coco Tam's on the beach is the other big meeting spot, especially for the nightly fire show.

How do I get to Fisherman's Village from other parts of Ko Samui?

The easiest way is a Grab taxi. From Chaweng it's about 15 minutes (฿120–150), from Maenam about 10 minutes, from Ko Samui Airport about 10 minutes, and from Lamai about 30 minutes. Songthaews (shared taxis) run along the ring road and pass the village entrance all day. You can also rent a scooter — free parking is available near the village. On Friday nights the street closes to traffic, so Grab tends to drop you at the end of the road.
