Hash in Koh Samui: A Guide to Artisan Dry-Cured Hash

What dry-cured hash is, how it is made, how it differs from flower and edibles, and what you need to buy it legally at Magical Garden in Ko Samui.

Dry-cured hash is one of the cannabis products you may come across in Ko Samui. This guide explains what it is, how it is made, how it compares to flower and edibles, and what you need to know before buying it at a licensed shop such as Magical Garden in Fisherman's Village.

What is dry-cured hash?

Hash is made from the resin glands (trichomes) of the cannabis plant. These tiny glands contain most of the plant's cannabinoids and terpenes, which is why hash is considered a concentrated product.

Dry-cured hash is made without solvents. Mature cannabis flower is dried and then gently sieved or agitated so the trichomes separate from the plant material. The resulting powder (kief) is pressed, or sometimes hand-rolled and cured over time, into small blocks or balls. "Artisan" refers to the care taken during drying, sifting and curing.

Compared with heavily pressed hash, artisan dry-cured hash usually contains less plant material and has a softer, more crumbly texture. Compared with solvent-based concentrates, it is made purely by mechanical separation.

How hash compares to flower and edibles

โ€ขFlower is the dried bud of the plant and comes in many strains, each with its own aroma and character.

โ€ขHash is more concentrated than flower, so much smaller amounts are used. Its aroma depends on the strain it was made from and can range from earthy and spicy to woody or floral.

โ€ขEdibles work differently: they take considerably longer to take effect and last longer. Read more in our guide to edibles.

Because hash is concentrated, it is generally better suited to people who already have experience with cannabis. If you are new to it, start with a very small amount and ask our staff for advice.

Hash is traditionally crumbled into a joint together with flower, or used in a small pipe.

Buying hash legally in Ko Samui: the PT33

Under Thailand's current rules, cannabis is available for medical use, and buying it requires a PT33 prescription issued by a licensed doctor. Magical Garden cannot issue a PT33 itself, but we make the process easy: you can arrange a short telemedicine consultation with a licensed doctor, and a PT33 is valid for a full month. Read how it works on our PT33 guide.
